Harriet & Oak - Rapid City, SD
During my most recent cross country roadtrip, I stayed a couple nights in South Dakota, a state that most people forget isn’t the same place as North Dakota. I was surprised to find that Rapid City (as well as Sioux Falls) is charming as hell. The morning before my departure towards Mt. Rushmore, I cruised into downtown to check out Harriet & Oak, a beautiful space that just happened to have a converted VW microbus as extra seating.
The interior of this space was extremely airy, with wide windows that gave a nice view of downtown Rapid City. Since the city is so close to Mt. Rushmore, there were statues of Presidents on the street corners with short bios. Right in the center of the space was a vintage VW Microbus in a pretty pale blue color. Converting the interior of the bus into extra seating is a nice creative touch - can you imagine having a business meeting there!?
Above the bar was a second story loft area with extra seating. Even though it was a rainy Sunday morning, plenty of tourists and locals alike piled in for their morning joe. I even ordered a homemade pop tart, which was a nice treat to start out the long multi-state cruise that I had planned for the day.
